Ernie the pet sheep from Dublin has been saved from the slaughterhouse

Ernie was going to be made into dinner unless 1000 people signed a petition. And guess what…

YESTERDAY, WE TOLD you about Orlaith from Garristown in Co Dublin, who is fighting to save her beloved pet sheep Ernie from the slaughterhouse.

Well, Ernie is not going to be tomorrow’s dinner – he was rescued by the kind people of Facebook, who stepped up in their thousands to sign a petition to save him.

Just to get you up to speed: Ernie is a great friend to Orlaith and her family and as she says, “an icon of hope and faith for the future generation of sheep” – but bafflingly, her dad wants to make him into dinner.

In an emotional Facebook post, Orlaith wrote:

I honestly don’t know how I’m going to wake up in the morning without seeing him out the window looking up at me. The dogs won’t be able to chase the neighbouring sheep without Ernie by their side.

Orlaith said that if 1000 people sign a Facebook petition, her dad will let her keep Ernie as a pet.

Since the story broke yesterday, Orlaith’s petition has received over 2,500 likes from people all over Ireland, as well as messages from folks as far away as Norway, Bulgaria and India.

Ernie (and his adorable fuzzy mop of hair) is saved! Justice is served.
